July 2020: Some of Germany´s top musicians of the electronic and ambient scene were invited and met in a club in Berlin, without audience.

Thorsten Quaeschning´s improvisation skills give the guest musicians the space to show their art and talent.

Season 2 contains 13 sessions. An experience of Electronic & Ambiant music, passion and unique vibes.

THE HOST OF SEASON 2

Thorsten is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and musical director who played and composed on more than 120 albums worldwide with different artists including 75 albums (albums, compilations, live-albums) with TANGERINE DREAM.

He composed the original soundtrack for “CARGO” (USA/2018), “LETTERS FROM LIBYA, (Libya & Germany) and “REMNANTS” (UK/2013).

FREDDY HAU

Guitarist, musician and songwriter based in Berlin (Germany).

From 2008 to 2011 he played guitar in the worldwide known musical „We Will Rock You“ in Stuttgart (Germany) and Berlin (Germany). He was chosen by Brian May and Roger Taylor personally and had the honor to share the stage with Brian May, too.

From 2011 to 2016 he was a performing member of the german band Luxuslärm. With this band he worked as a guitarist, musical director and co-songwriter and released two albums via Universal Records. The band sold ca. 250.000 copies and he played more than 250 concerts with Luxuslärm. In 2015 he recorded and released his first Solo-Ep HauNow.

In 2017 he got his first golden record for playing guitars on the album of german pop artist Namika.

Since 2019 he is with Jini Meyer Band and released 2020 as HAU9 three new singles.

FRANZ BARGMANN & DANA SCHECHTER

Franz Bargmann (GER)

is a German guitarist and founding member of Berlin based band CAMERA, well-known for their spontanous Krautrock-Guerilla-concerts.

Franz can also be heard on several projects, as on the Dark-Techno debut album „Auferstehung“ of OAKE, and he just released as BROCKMANN/BARGMANN the new record „Zeit“.

Since 2014 he is playing guitar for German Krautrock legend Michael Rother (NEU!, HARMONIA).

Franz is based in Berlin

 

Dana Schechter (USA)

is a musician, composer, visual artist, animator and producer.

She founded her band BEE AND FLOWER in NYC in 1999, and started a solo project called INSECT ARK in 2011. Dana is also bassist with SWANS.

Throughout her life she made both music and visuals.

​Musically, she started out as a bassist playing in bands since she was 16.

Over time she have expanded her list of instruments to include lap steel guitar, piano, synthesizers, vocalizations/singing, acoustic and electric drums, as well as recording, engineering, and producing.

Visually, she began as an oil painter/printmaker, later moving into video work with motion graphics/animation. Over the last few years she started bringing these two worlds together, integrating the scope of her creative output. She is also known for her film scoring work, as for „Ratter“, „A Good Night To Die“ and „Dead Dogs Lie“.

 Dana is based in Berlin and New York

SHIR-RAN YINON

daughter of the internationally renowned conductor Israel Yinon (1956-2015).

Shir-Ran comes originally from the world of classical music. She started playing the violin at age 9 and later studied viola with Avshalom Sarid at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

She studied composition with Prof. Oded Zehavi and Prof. Eitan Steinberg at the University of Haifa, at which she has received several awards.

From Classical Music to Pop and Rock through Folk and Metal – Shir-Ran Yinon is a versatile and multifaceted musician. As performer on violin, electric violin and viola, singer, as well as composer and arranger – she doesn’t set any musical boundaries.

On the violin Shir-Ran is known for her expressive and virtuoso playing along with her wide stylistic range and improvisation skills. She performs internationally with well-known rock and metal acts, including legendary British rock band „NEW MODEL ARMY“ since 2014 and Swiss folk-metal band „ELUVEITIE“ during 2015-2016.

As a guest-violinist and singer she has shared the stage with artists like Schandmaul, Haggard, Epica, Calexico, The Eden House, Söhne Mannheims, Letzte Instanz, Die Zöllner, Engerling and Krayenzeit. She has also accompanied Evanescence, 2Cellos, Gregory Porter and Santiano’s MTV Unplugged at orchestral shows and appeared on TV with Johnny Logan, Herbert Grönemeyer, Revolverheld and the band of The Voice of Israel.

Shir-Ran has performed in over 30 countries on 5 continents, including shows at major festivals like the famous Wacken Open Air. She is also an experienced studio musician and has recorded for Delain, Cellar Darling, Leah, Suidakra, Ingrimm and many others, often writing the solo-parts and string arrangements herself.

She is based in Leipzig, Germany.

STEPHAN GRAF VON BOTHMER

Carsten-Stephan Graf von Bothmer gehört zu den angesagtesten Stummfilmmusikern in Deutschland. Der Pianist füllt Konzertsäle auf fünf Kontinenten mit seinen spektakulären Stummfilm-Konzerten. Bisher hat er über 600 Stummfilme vor über 110.000 Gästen vertont.

Seine Stummfilm-Konzerte sind die erfolgreichsten Stummfilmaufführungen ihrer Art in Deutschland.

Friedemann Beyer, ehemaliger Vorstand der Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, hält die StummfilmKonzerte für einzigartig in Deutschland, der Leiter des Filmfest Braunschweig, Volker Kufahl, sagte: “Unter den Titel ‘Popularisierung des Stummfilmes’ muss man den Namen ‘Stephan von Bothmer’ setzen.”

Stephan v. Bothmers Filmmusiken gibt es nicht nur live. Er hat zahlreiche Kurzfilme vertont, die auf ZDF, ARTE, Premiere, 3Sat und der Deutschen Welle liefen.

Am 1.3.2010 stellte er als erster Musiker eine neue Musik zur restaurierten Fassung von METROPOLIS (1927 / 2010) für Fügel Solo vor, am 2.3.2010 eine zweite Komposition für Ensemble. Seine Komposition zum Stummfilm “Madame Dubarry” wurde von ARTE im April 2008 ausgestrahlt und im Mai wiederholt.

ZDF, 3Sat und Premiere spielen seine Filmmusik. ProArte, Hamburgs renommierteste klassische Konzertagentur, präsentierte Graf Bothmer in der Laeiszhalle Hamburg. ProArte holt Pianisten wie z.B. Lang Lang nach Hamburg.

 

Stephan v. Bothmer studierte Klavier u. a. bei den Professoren Robert Henry, Sorin Enerchescu, Rolf Koenen und Georg Sava in Berlin und Hamburg. Sein Examen im Fach Klavier legte er an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin mit der Bestnote 1,0 unter besonderer Erwähnung der herausragenden interpretatorischen Leistung ab. Daneben studierte er an der Jazz- und Rockschule Freiburg und spielte in zahlreichen Bands. Intensive Studien außereuropäischer Musik, insbesondere afrikanischer und asiatischer Musik, experimenteller und Neuer Musik folgten.

SHAWN CROWDER & MARKUS REUTER

Shawn Crowder (USA)

began his drumming career in New York, working as an in-demand player in the live electronic and underground jazz scenes.  Shawn is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He held a guest faculty teaching position for 5 years at the annual Berklee Percussion Festival in Boston.

Together with YouTuber/bassist Andam Neely he formed the international electrojazz duo „SUNGAZER“.  The duo has brought their unique blend of hard-hitting Jazz Fusion, 8-bit, Glitch and EDM to audiences in the U.S. and Europe. Sungazer explores the human element of improvisation within the context of the modern electronic music paradigm.

Shwan is now based in Berlin, Germany.

 

Markus Reuter (GER)

Is a multi-disciplinary musician, composer, record producer and instrument designer.

Reuter’s work as recording artist, solo performer and composer spans (and frequently fuses) electrophonic loop music, contemporary classical music, progressive and art rock, industrial music, world jazz, jazz fusion, pop songs and pure improvisation.

Over the course of a two-decade career, he has been a member of multiple bands, ensembles and projects including CENTROZOON, STICK MEN, TUNER, THE CRIMSON ProjeKct, as

further collaborations with artists including Tim Bowness, Lee Fletcher, Ian Boddy and Robert Rich,

A specialist in touch guitar playing, Reuter became known as a leading player of the Warr Guitar and Chapman Stick during the 1990s and 2000s before developing, adopting and marketing his own U8 and U10 Touch Guitar instruments. In collaboration with former King Crimson member Trey Gunn, he runs the Touch Guitar Circle, a teaching and support network for touch guitar players.

HARALD GROSSKOPF & PAUL FRICK

Harald Großkopf (GER)

drummer,  composer,  producer  and  legend  of  German  Electronic  Music  and Krautrock  drumming  veteran  around KRAFTWERK, TANGERINE  DREAM, KLAUS SCHULZE  and  ASHRA.

Early  Seventies,  performing  his  unique  drumming  style  on  several KLAUS SCHULZE  albums. 

Member  of  Manuel  Goettsching`s  line  up ASHRA  (Ash  Ra Tempel).  Involved  on  many  of  their  albums  and  international  live  touring.

2017 album  release  with KRAFTWERK  founding  member  Eberhard  Kranemann (KRAUTWERK  /  Bureau  B.),  performed  live  throughout  England,  Sweden  and  at „Tomorrow  Festival  2018“  in  Shenzhen/China. His  solo  album  debute SYNTHESIST  (1980)  had  an  early  impact  on  Techno  and House  music. 

In  2020  the  album  celebrates  it`s  40th  publication  anniversary, honored  by  a  limited,  newly  covered  vinyl  LP  plus  bonus remix  album  edition on  (Bureau  B.). 

 

Paul Frick (GER),

is a German composer, producer and multi talented instrumentalist.

After intense guitar and piano playing during

childhood, Paul Frick took composition lessons with Il-Ryun Chung from the age of twelve.

From 2000-2008 classical composition studies with Friedrich Goldmann at UDK Berlin.

Since 2009 live appearances in more than 50 countries with the acoustic/electronic trio BRANDT BRAUER FRICK and other formations.

BBF as well founded a ten-piece ensemble and expanded their music for orchestra and choir.

HOSHIKO YAMANE & PAUL FRICK

Hoshiko Yamane (JP)

is a classically trained, Berlin-based, Japanese violinist and composer.

Yamane started her classical training when she was four years old. After she graduated from Aich Prafectural University of Art and Music with the Master of Fine Arts for the violin, she moved to Berlin. Later, she graduated with a Diploma in violin and during her studies,she worked with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester.  From 2011-2013, she worked with Jane Birkin on a European tour (with music directed by Nobuyuki Nakajima), performing live concerts in more than thirty countries.

As TUKICO, her solo side project, she released her first EP, ‘become’, on Hush Hush Records (USA),in early-2020 and solo album,’Primitive’, on Subcontinental Records (India), in Autumn 2020.

She is a member of legendary German electronic music group TANGERINE DREAM, since 2011.

 

Paul Frick (GER),

is a German composer, producer and multi talented instrumentalist.

HELGE SORG

Helge Sorg (GER)

Helge Sorg is a multi faceted musician from Germany currently residing in Berlin.

As a youngster he was lucky enough to tour various countries and continents as drummer for the youth jazz orchestra of his home state Rhineland-Palatinate, including the United States, India, South Korea and countries all over Europe.

The prospect of being able to engage with other cultures via the performing arts formed his decision to start studying at the conservatory in 2014.

After four years of being taught in both Arnhem (The Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark) he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2018 and moved to Berlin soon after.

Originally an aspiring jazz drummer he soon shifted focus and found interest in experimenting with the electronic augmentation of his instrument, bridging the gap between acoustic and synthesized music

by manipulating the natural sound of the drums with a variety of electronics.

Helge’s current main project is called Uglydub, a duo project dedicated to the live implemantation of modern grime and leftfield bass music together with his partner, the violinist Judy Döhn.

They released their first EP „Tryptophan“ in early 2021 which is available via all digital outlets.

ALEX KOZMIDI

Guitarist and songwriter based in Berlin (Germany).

Alex Kozmidi is known on the Berlin underground jam circle as a cocky brilliant guitarist, be it jazz, blues, rock, or experimental soundscapes. He had built quite a name for himself as an admirable stage-jumper or/and a featured soloist with other leaders. Alex is member of legendary German band CAMERA, which has their own section, alongside Krautrock pioneers like NEU!, Can and La Düsseldorf.

KRISTOF HAHN

Kristof Hahn is a singer and guitar player. He’s also a member of SWANS and LES HOMMES SAUVAGES.

SWANS are an American experimental rock band formed in 1982 by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira. One of few acts to emerge from the New York City-based no wave scene and stay intact into the next decade, Swans have become recognized for an ever-changing sound, exploring genres such as noise rock, post-punk, industrial and post-rock. Initially, their music was known for its sonic brutality and misanthropic lyrics.

MYA AUDREY

She was fascinated by the piano at a very early age and found inspiration in jazz and soul music.

She graduated with a dual major in jazz piano and vocal performance at the renowned University of Arts in Bern, Switzerland. During her studies, she attended several master classes in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Boston’s Berklee College of Music with Diane Reeves, Dave Liebmann, Benny Golson, Christian McBride, Kenny Baron, The New York Voices and Brad Meldau. She received several awards as a solo artist as well as with the band she led.

She toured and played her original music in various clubs throughout Europe, China and West Australia. Some of her most notable performances included the Olypmic Games 2008, Montreux Jazz Festival, Reeperbahn Festival, Blue Balls Lucerne, Piano Off-Stage Festival Lucerne at KKL Lucerne, Gurtenfestival Bern and the MIDI-Festival in Shanghai and Beijing.

Mya is based in Berlin, Germany. As a songwriter Mya Audrey released two albums: „Sudden Breeze“ (2010) on Nation Music and „Wayfaring Trails“ (2014) on Sophie Records (CH) and 22D Music Group (D/F). She’s currently writing new music for her synth pop project DINAH.

JAN „STIX“ PFENNIG

In 1999 Jan „Stix“ Pfennig moved to Berlin and studied Jazz- and Popmusic at the renowned University Hanns-Eissler. From 2000-2012 he organised weekly Jam-Sessions and got in touch with the Berlin music scene.

From 2005 to 2013 he was the drummer with German band „Rotfront“ and was touring in Europe.

In 2009 he was the tour drummer with German Rap-star MATERIA / MARSIMOTO and from 2008-2015 he was the  drummer for German Rap-Star SIDO.

2012 he founded with his Hiphop band „The Swag“ the wellkonown Berlin HipHop-Event „The Swagjam“ and in 2015

Jan released his drum school rhythm concept „Swagdrumming“ at AMA Publishing, which is going deep into the topics „Inbetween-Shuffle“ and „Qintolen-Drumming“. In 2017 he released „Swagdrumming II“.

In 2017 Jan founded his Drum&Bass Solo-Projekt „Stixonspeed“ and since 2020 he is playing for German Rap star KONTRA K as electronic drummer.

KNUT HAGEDORN (GER)

Knut Hagedorn studied Jazzdrums at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen (NL). For four years he received privat drum lessons by Ralph Peterson and Owen Hart. In addition, he attended Solfege-, Theory- and Composition- Classes by teachers as Conrad Herwig, Don Braden, Brian Lynch and David Berkman. In 2006 he graduated with the degree „Bachelor of Music“.

Since then he works as a freelance musician and is known for playing with 17 HIPPIES and is own self titled solo project the Knut Hagedorn Quartett (KHQ).

Knut is based in Berlin.

 

LUTZ „LÜÜL“ GRAF – ULBRICH (GER)

Berlin singer and guitarplayer Lutz Graf-Ulbrich, nickname „LÜÜL“ is well known for beeing involved in various projects. He plays guitar with AGITATION FREE and ASH RA TEMPEL , he was working and living with VELVET UNDERGROUND female singer NICO for several years.  Lüül had the „Neue Deutsche Welle“ hit „Morgens in der U-Bahn“, and founded the Rocktheater Reineke Fuchs.

He is founding member of German band 17 HIPPIES and he released his autobiography „und ich folge meiner Spur“.

Lüül is based in Berlin
